Santa Pictures Galore

Accunet/AP Multimedia Archive
With Christmas fast approaching, many interesting "Santa" pictures show up in the press.
On the left: Gordie Blevins, dressed as Santa Claus for a breakfast with Santa event, carries a shovel across Broadway after shoveling the sidewalks in front of his businesses.

The Accunet/AP Multimedia Archive is one of many databases to which McConnell Library provides access, and it is perfectly suited (no pun intended) for tracking down pictures of Santa (or any other person or topic).

You can use Accunet/AP Multimedia Archive to view AP photos as they are added to the Associated Press's database of pictures. These pictures are updated at least once per hour -- giving you the chance to find images of extremely recent events. Included here are several different Santa photos, in various contexts.

You can click on any of these photos to be taken into the Accunet interface, where you will be given the option of seeing higher resolution versions, downloading the image, and also find out much more detail about the context of the image.

The Accunet/AP Multimedia Archive is an electronic database containing over one million photographs, ranging in date from the oldest known photograph ever taken (in 1826) to photos taken on the current day (and up to the current hour). There is also a large collection of diagrams, schematics, maps, etc. For example, If you are looking for “how to” home improvement projects, you can find this information along with diagrams in Accunet/AP Multimedia Archive -- To see a timely example -- below is an Associated Press graphic outlining the story of Santa Claus (click for more details).
